I Contacted 300 Designers to Offer Free AI Training. The Result Left Me in Shock.

I reached out to 300 designers with free AI Design agent training! What happened next was truly shocking!

AI agents are disrupting the design market right now. As I see it, we designers have to adapt fast to not be simply pushed aside. My response to this was to create the WDS module for the BMad method, an open source Agent Harness with 45,500+ stars on Github, used by thousands of people worldwide.

I decided to offer any designer a free, practical, hands-on introduction to agentic design. No pitch. No sales. No subscription.

I reached out to 300 designers with the invitation to connect and learn this new field together. Just a session of learning how to work with AI agents the way designers actually think, starting from strategy, through wireframes and specifications, visual design and arriving at working code.

I was shocked by the result. Here is what happened.

  • 134 people never replied.
  • 58 kindly declined.
  • 87 replied with interest, then went quiet.
  • 18 signed up.
  • 3 showed up.

For me, 1 in 100 is a staggering number. I know people have a lot to do, but in a world where designers no longer are the gatekeepers of design, we need to ride with the tide. What was even more shocking was that the response was not better from those currently unemployed. One designer wrote back:

I am sorry, I have too much work jobsearching so I don’t have time to learn AI right now.”

I cannot find a single job listing for a designer that does not list prominence in AI as a required skill. Let that land for a moment.

This pattern is not just from my outreach. I hear the same story from design leaders everywhere. One design leader wrote to me:

I cannot get my designers to embrace AI. I gave them a Lovable prototype, my team re-drew the whole thing by hand in Figma.”

WDS, Whiteport Design Studio, is part of the BMad ecosystem, one of the most widely adopted open-source agentic development frameworks in the world. The broader community is growing fast. Developers, entrepreneurs, project managers, startup founders, and design leaders from across Europe, the US, and beyond have engaged with the framework with genuine enthusiasm.

I think the resistance runs deeper than job fear. I think it’s about identity.

The question is whether designers will do the hard work of evolving, from pixel craftspeople into the strategic, agent-commanding, clarity-generating professionals the agentic era requires.

I am not giving up on designers. I am asking designers to not give up on themselves.

The world is not waiting.

What do you think? Why is everyone but designers interested in agents?
